Mother of Good Counsel School believes that a positive and comprehensive introduction to school life is imperative to the success of children and parents. For some Prep students, this is their first experience of a school environment and for some parents, the first time they have engaged with a school since they were students themselves. Mother of Good Counsel offers the following process of orientation and induction into Prep:
Parent Information Session
At this session in early November, parents are introduced to important aspects of Mother of Good Counsel School, including routines, parental engagement and some information from the teaching staff specifically about Prep, for example, parents are provided with some valuable information about language development and ways they can assist.
Bump Up Day
Students and parents attend the school for a session in November. Both the student and their parent spend time in the Prep area, so that some familiarisation is developed about expectations and the Prep classrooms.
Orientation Week
In Week 1, students come to school in half cohort groups, to meet the teachers and school officers and become familiar with routines and expectations. Students then come in for whole cohort days. The teachers will spend this time observing each child and their interactions, before dividing the students into their two classes. From Week 2, the students will remain in their given classes, and settle in to the full routine of school life.
