 Physical contact
Volunteers should avoid physical contact with students at all times. Any physical contact should be appropriate and reasonable for the behaviour, teaching, support, management or care of the student, having regard for their age, maturity, health or other characteristics.
Physical punishment of a student for any reason is not permitted.
Physical intervention is permitted at times when a student’s behaviour presents a danger to themselves or others, and when non-contact interventions have been ineffective. Physical intervention should only be applied to the extent required to de-escalate the incident.
Volunteers should not take actions that place themselves in danger.
In such emergency situations volunteers should seek immediate assistance from a staff member.
