1. During a school activity a student discloses that they do not want to go home this afternoon as they are frightened of their step-mother. The student says that the step-mother gets angry when she is drunk, breaks things and threatens to hurt the student and his younger brother. You should:

(a) Tell the student that it is ok – their step-mother probably does not mean it.
